What Bed is Bigger: King or Queen?

What bed is bigger: King or Queen?

Are you deciding between a king or queen bed? When it comes to choosing a mattress, deciding on the correct size is an important factor. It all depends on how much space you need when sleeping, how much space you have in your home, and what your budget is. When it comes to beds and mattresses, there are so many sizes. These are the order increasing in width and length size:

  • Small Single Mattress
  • Single Mattress
  • Small Double ‘Queen’ Mattress
  • Double Mattress
  • King Mattress
  • Super King size.

Now let’s look at the comparisons of size between a king and queen-sized mattress. A queen size mattress is smaller than a king size, and can be a ‘small double’ with a width to length of 120 x 190 cm. Or, a queen size can be a ‘double’ mattress with a width to length of 135 x 190 cm. Both these queen sizes have the same length of 190cm, but a double mattress is a little wider than small double mattress.

A king size mattress has a larger width and length than both queen size mattresses. A standard king size has a width to length of 150 x 200 cm. A super king mattress has a size of 180 x 200 cm width to length, which has the same length as king but it wider. Both king mattresses are bigger than queen size mattresses.

Further comparisons

This means that the bigger the size of mattress, the more surface area, and the higher the price.

Queen mattress has a surface area of 22,800 square cm for a small double. And, a surface area of 25,650 square cm for double. Queen size mattresses accommodate for 2 people and doesn’t require a large bedroom to fit in.

King size mattresses has a surface area of 30,000 square cm and for super king 36,000 square cm. These have a larger surface area than queen size, and so can accommodate for couples who want extra room and space. The wider super king allows the same, but more room as it is wider. Requires large master bedroom!
