Can Mattress Cause Backpain?
Can Mattress Cause Backpain?
Your mattress can be the root cause, or contribute to back problems, aches, and pains. Imagine how long we spend sleeping on our mattresses daily, around 7-9 hours? This makes it an integral part of our life and health.
The continued use of an old mattress will cause your spine to misalign its natural positioning in your back, strain muscles and inflict a poor sleeping position.
How do I know if my mattress is causing me back pain?
These are the top 5 reasons:
Morning pain
Waking up in the morning isn’t as easy as it used to be. If your back is twinging from pain and soreness when you wake up, then this is the first sign that your mattress may be the culprit, especially if there have been no sudden changes in your daily life. Your sleeping position could be a factor too, and can be affected if your mattress needs renewing (or is the wrong type for your sleeping position)
Poor night sleep.
The tossing and turning, the frustration, and the inability to just getting a comfortable position seems impossible. Your mattress should be one that allows your body to have the comfort, and your spine to be aligned correctly to fall into that healthy deep slumber we need quickly.
An old mattress
Your mattress should never be more than 8 years old. If your mattress is cheap, then it is likely its life span is even less than this.
A New mattress
Is your new bed killing your back? Don’t worry, it could be because your body is not used to the feel of this new mattress even though it is better for you. Just like how you need to ‘break in’ and get used to new shoes, mattresses are the same. Being used to the old, worn-out mattress you had, may be why your body is finding it difficult to transition to a new one.
Sagging, uneven, or lumpy mattress
A saggy or uneven mattress will cause you back pain,. Our spines need to be aligned and supported during sleep and if the surface isn’t correct for your spine as of a dent, then your body will contour to the shape of it and will sag too.
