Back Pain and Sleep  

When it comes to sleep, it is really important that we sleep well, not only so we can reap all of the benefits that sleeping does for us and our body but, also because if we don’t sleep in a well support comfortable in environment and mattress that we can have a lot of problems too, such as back pains.  

Having a poor sleeping position can lead you having back problems, making your back sore thus giving you a lot of dis comfort. A poor sleeping position can do this because, it puts pressure on your spine thus causing back pians. Dealing with back pain is a very common thing that a lot of people deal with unfortunately, you can have back pain in your lower back, on your upper back, and just back pain in general. 

  • Upper back pain 

Upper back pain is usually from things that getting injured, poor posture, sitting in an uncomfortable position for a long time, improper lifting techniques. Having upper back pain isn’t as common as having lower back pain.  

  • Lower back pain  

Often lower back pain in connected to poor sleeping or sitting positions, the absence of support is what causes lower back pain when sitting or sleeping. This type of back pain is very common, it is often easy to fix but sometimes it takes a while to get use to 

  • General back pain  

You can get general back pain from a lot of different things and from a lot of different ways, to best treat it and to get a better understanding of the back pain that you are suffering from and to get a proper analysis of it, it is best that you go to the doctor to get it checked out and to find out how you can treat it.  

Which position is the worst for back pain?  

Back pain whilst sleeping is causes cause of the lack of support whilst sleeping., the sleeping position that causes back pain the most is sleeping on is sleeping on your stomach. When you sleep on your stomach this position puts a lot of pressure on your spine’s muscles and joints as it flattens your natural spinal curve. Not to mention that when you sleep on your stomach you force your neck to be turned for the rest of the night therefore, also causing you to have neck pains alongside your back pain.  

A way you could prevent getting back pains is by sleeping on your back with a pillow underneath your knees to help maintain your natural spinal curve of your lower back, thus preventing back pains from poor and unsupportive sleeping positions. This is an easy fix to your back pains from poor sleeping positions however, it is something that will take some getting used to in terms of changing your sleeping position. If you want additional support then you can try rolling up a small towel and place that under the small of your back. A supportive pillow will also give your neck extra support to stop you from getting neck pains, and lastly an investment towards a support and comfortable mattress such as a memory foam mattress will also make a great deal of a difference when it comes to preventing back pain as it provides the right amount of support and comfort that you are looking for when it comes to no longer suffering from back pains.
